Percussion

DIRECTOR: Tyler Nechamkin

McKinney High School percussionists are expected to be well-rounded, high-level musicians. Students are required to participate in the drumline or front ensemble (pit) during the marching season and one concert band in the spring.

In the Fall semester, all percussionists are placed in either a front ensemble class or drumline class.  The students audition in November for placement in a band for the spring semester.  Percussion students hoping to be placed in Wind Symphony must audition for the All-Region Band.  Participation in the McKinney Ensemble Contest and Solo Contest is required for Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band percussionists. Participation in the MISD Concerto Contest is highly encouraged but not required. Private lessons are expected of Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band students.  Lessons are highly encouraged for all other percussionists. Financial aid is available.  In addition to these band commitments, students will perform a percussion concert at some point during the year to demonstrate their musical abilities.

The Percussion Studio was selected to perform at the PASIC International Percussion Conference in 2023.
